New Alliance brings together 11 European foundations to support Socially Engaged Arts

In January 2025, 11 of Europe’s leading philanthropic foundations, including Stiftung Mercator Schweiz, launched the Alliance for Socially Engaged Arts.

The alliance aims to connect and elevate visionary leaders and organisations in socially engaged arts across Europe, transforming public and policy awareness, and securing vital recognition and funding to accelerate their impact. The members of the alliance envision a future where community engagement and creative collaboration are recognized as drivers of excellence and impact in the arts sector—a future where the arts are celebrated as catalysts for social progress.

The alliance is hosted by the Network of European Foundations (NEF). The partner foundations involved are: Stiftung Mercator Schweiz, Allianz Foundation, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Cariplo Foundation, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, European Cultural Foundation, Hilti Foundation, King Baudouin Foundation, “la Caixa” Foundation and Moleskine Foundation.

Empowering Visionary Leaders: The Fellowship Programme

Central to the alliance’s mission is its Fellowship. This programme offers a unique opportunity for up to 15 leaders working across diverse artistic disciplines and social issues. Through a mix of collaborative opportunities, mentorship, and capacity-building support, Fellows will strengthen the impact and structures of their organisations, accelerate their professional growth, and drive impactful advocacy efforts alongside other participants.

The programme includes:

  • A €60,000 grant for organisational development and tackling existing challenges
  • Online workshops, mentorship, and tailored resources
  • Immersive residential experiences, study visits, and exchanges

Applications for the programme are open until Monday, 24 February 2025, at 9:00 AM CET.
