What nonprofits need in times of COVID-19 – A new U.S. survey shares answers
The new report Funder Support During the COVID-19 Pandemic based on survey responses of nonprofit leaders in the U.S. sheds light on the main issues and needs of non-profit organisations due to the pandemic. The report reveals answers to three main questions:
- How have nonprofits and the people and communities they serve been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic?
- How have staffed foundation funders and major donors responded in support of nonprofits during the COVID-19 pandemic?
- Going forward, what do nonprofits most need from funders?
The study concludes that due to COVID-19, negative impacts have been magnified for nonprofits which provide direct services and serve historically disadvantaged communities. Further, nonprofits that rely on foundation funding are experiencing fewer negative impacts and more stable funding than those relying more so on earned revenue or gifts from individual donors. Also the nonprofit leaders report that beyond seeking dialogue with their grantees, not many staffed foundation funders have allowed goals of current grants to shift, extended or flexibilized deadlines, proactively converted restricted grant funds to unrestricted funding, or provided supplemental grants.
The report was published by the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP)
